📌
Fruit vocabulary and genderel durazno/melocotón (peach), las fresas (strawberries), la sandía (watermelon), la manzana (apple), el plátano (banana), la pera (pear), el melón (melon), la naranja (orange), las cerezas (cherries), las uvas (grapes). Most fruit is feminine; the main masculine exceptions are el plátano, el melón.
🔧
Durazno vs. melocotónEl durazno (peach) is the standard word in Mexico and much of Latin America; el melocotón is the Spanish (Spain) term. This kind of regional variation is common with food vocabulary. Similarly, el plátano (banana) in Spain vs. la banana in Argentina. Knowing both forms avoids confusion when travelling.
