📌
The -mente rule: feminine form first — To form an adverb from an adjective, take the feminine singular form and add -mente: lento → lenta → lentamente; rápido → rápida → rápidamente; tranquilo → tranquila → tranquilamente. If the adjective only has one form (-e or consonant ending), add -mente directly.
🔧
Accent marks are preserved — If the adjective has a written accent, it stays in the adverb: fácil → fácilmente, rápido → rápidamente, básico → básica → básicamente. The accent keeps the original stress and also distinguishes the adverb from other words.
💡
Avoiding -mente repetition — When listing several adverbs together, Spanish allows -mente on only the last one, with the others in their feminine adjective form: Habló clara y pausadamente instead of claramente y pausadamente. This sounds more natural in formal writing.
