📌
Specialist shopping vocabulary — la corbata (tie), la sucursal (branch of a shop/bank), las mascotas (pets — also pet shop items), los discos (records/CDs), la tarjeta (card — credit/debit), regatear (to haggle), el celular (mobile phone), demasiado (too much/many), el reembolso (refund), la librería (bookshop).
🔧
Librería — a classic false friend — La librería is a bookshop, NOT a library. A library is la biblioteca. Similarly, el reembolso (refund) is what you get when returning goods; la devolución is the act of returning. Regatear (to haggle) is perfectly normal in markets across Latin America and Spain — it's expected in many contexts!
💬
Shopping problem scenarios — Quiero un reembolso, por favor (I'd like a refund, please). ¿Aceptan tarjeta? (Do you take card?). Es demasiado caro (It's too expensive). ¿Puedo regatear el precio? (Can I haggle on the price?). ¿Hay una sucursal más cerca? (Is there a closer branch?). La librería abre a las diez (The bookshop opens at ten).
