Spanish Transportation Vocabulary Exercise 1

Transport vocabulary — la barca (boat/barge), el coche (car — Spain; el carro or el auto in Latin America), ir a pie (to go on foot), el tren (train), el avión (plane), la bicicleta (bicycle), la moto (motorbike), el autobús (bus), la camioneta (van/pick-up), la furgoneta (van — Spain).

How to say 'to go by' in Spanish — Use ir en + transport: ir en coche, ir en tren, ir en avión, ir en bicicleta. But for on foot: ir a pie (not en pie). For horse: ir a caballo (also a). La camioneta in Latin America often means a pick-up truck; in Spain it can mean a small van. La furgoneta is the Spain-specific term for a delivery-type van.

Getting around — ¿Cómo vas al trabajo? (How do you get to work?). Voy en autobús (I take the bus). Es más rápido en tren (It's faster by train). Fui a pie porque hacía buen tiempo (I walked because the weather was nice). Perdí el avión (I missed the plane). La bicicleta es más ecológica (The bicycle is more eco-friendly).
