Reflexive pronouns in compound constructions — When a reflexive pronoun and an object pronoun appear together, the reflexive always comes first: se me olvidó, se te cayó, se le rompió. These constructions express accidental happenings and are very common: Se me olvidó el móvil (I forgot my phone — lit. the phone forgot itself on me).
🔧
Pronoun placement with modal + infinitive — With a modal verb + infinitive, the pronouns can go before the conjugated modal or attach to the infinitive — both are correct: Lo quiero ver = Quiero verlo. Me lo puedes decir = Puedes decírmelo. In speech, attaching to the infinitive is slightly more common.
💡
Pronouns with the progressive — With estar + gerund, pronouns can precede estar or attach to the gerund: Lo estoy leyendo = Estoy leyéndolo. Attaching to a gerund requires an accent mark to preserve the stress: leyendo + lo → leyéndolo; diciéndotelo, explicándonoslo.
