Direct object pronouns (mixed) 1

Choosing lo, la, los, or las — The 3rd-person direct object pronouns are lo (masc. sing.), la (fem. sing.), los (masc. pl.), las (fem. pl.). Match the gender and number of the noun being replaced: ¿Tienes el libro? → Lo tengo. ¿Ves las flores? → Las veo.

Lo for masculine nouns and ideas — Lo replaces masculine nouns (el libro → lo) but also replaces entire phrases or ideas (neuter use): No sé si es verdad, pero me lo dijeron. In this neuter use, lo replaces the whole concept "that it's true" rather than a specific noun. This neuter lo is invariable.

Position with different verb forms — DOP before conjugated verb: Lo veo. Attached to affirmative command: Véndemelo. With modal + infinitive — either position: Quiero verlo = Lo quiero ver. With gerund: Estoy leyéndolo = Lo estoy leyendo. All four options exist; choose based on what sounds natural.
