📌
Direct vs indirect object pronouns — Direct object pronouns (DOPs) replace the thing or person receiving the action directly: Veo el libro → Lo veo. Indirect object pronouns (IOPs) show to/for whom: Doy el libro a Juan → Le doy el libro. The key test: can you ask "what?" (DOP) or "to/for whom?" (IOP)?
🔧
When le/les must change to se — When a DOP and IOP appear together, the IOP comes first — but le/les change to se before any form of lo/la: Le lo doy → Se lo doy. This change is obligatory. Add a clarifier when needed: Se lo doy a él.
💡
Pronoun order: IOP always before DOP — The fixed order is IOP + DOP in front of conjugated verbs: Me lo dice, te la mando, nos lo explican. With infinitives or gerunds, both can attach to the end (same order): Quiero dártelo = Te lo quiero dar. Either placement is correct.
