📚 Quick grammar review
📌
Algún and ningún before masculine nounsAlguno and ninguno shorten to algún and ningún directly before a masculine singular noun: ¿Hay algún problema? No hay ningún problema. The written accent is essential — without it the meaning changes.
🚫
Ningún is almost always singular — Unlike English "no", Spanish ninguno/a is used almost exclusively in the singular. Say No tengo ningún amigo, not ningunos amigos. The rare plural ningunos/ningunas only appears with nouns that are inherently plural: ningunas vacaciones.
💡
Double negatives are correct in Spanish — When ningún/a follows the verb, you still need no before the verb — Spanish requires the double negative: No veo ningún coche. If ningún/a comes before the verb, no is dropped: Ningún coche llegó tarde.
