Shortened forms before masculine nouns — Some adjectives drop their final vowel before a masculine singular noun: bueno → buen libro, malo → mal día, primero → primer piso, tercero → tercer piso. The full form is used after the noun: el libro es bueno.
📐
Grande → gran before any singular nounGrande shortens to gran before any singular noun (masculine or feminine) and usually changes meaning: un gran escritor (a great writer), una gran ciudad (a great city). After the noun, grande just means physically large.
💡
Santo → san before men's namesSanto shortens to san before most male saints' names: San Juan, San Pedro, San Francisco. Exceptions that keep the full form: Santo Tomás, Santo Domingo (names beginning with To- or Do-).
