Spanish Containers Vocabulary Exercise 1

Container vocabulary — el vaso (glass/cup), la bolsa (bag), la canasta (basket), el balde (bucket), el recipiente (container/vessel), el barril (barrel), la botella (bottle), la caja (box), la jarra (jug/pitcher), el paquete (packet/package). Essential vocabulary for shopping and kitchen tasks.

Using containers with quantity expressions — Containers are used in quantity phrases: un vaso de agua (a glass of water), una botella de vino (a bottle of wine), una bolsa de harina (a bag of flour), un balde de agua (a bucket of water). The structure is always container + de + contents. El recipiente is the most generic term for any container.

In the kitchen and supermarket — ¿Me pasas la jarra de leche? (Can you pass me the milk jug?). Compré una caja de cereales (I bought a box of cereal). Pon la basura en la bolsa (Put the rubbish in the bag). El barril de cerveza está vacío (The beer barrel is empty). Guarda el paquete en la alacena (Put the packet in the cupboard).
