Bedroom vocabulary — la cama (bed), la almohada (pillow), las sábanas (sheets), el clóset (wardrobe/closet — Latin America), el armario (wardrobe — Spain), las cortinas (curtains), el despertador (alarm clock), la lámpara (lamp), las pantuflas (slippers), la mesa de noche (bedside table).
🔧
Clóset vs. armario — El clóset (from English 'closet') is common in Mexico and Latin America; el armario is the standard word in Spain. Las sábanas (sheets) is always plural — you'd say sábanas limpias (clean sheets) rather than una sábana which refers to a single sheet. El despertador comes from despertar (to wake up).
💬
Bedroom expressions — Haz la cama antes de salir (Make the bed before you leave). Pon el despertador a las siete (Set the alarm for seven). Las cortinas no dejan pasar la luz (The curtains block the light). Mis pantuflas están debajo de la cama (My slippers are under the bed). ¿Me das una almohada más? (Can you give me another pillow?).
