Future tense (Regular verbs) 1

Regular future — endings on the full infinitive — Unlike most Spanish tenses, the future doesn't need a separate stem — add the endings directly to the full infinitive: hablar → hablaré, comer → comerá, vivir → viviremos. The same six endings apply to all verbs: -é, -ás, -á, -emos, -éis, -án.

The future for plans vs ir a + infinitive — In everyday speech, ir a + infinitive is more common for near-future plans: Voy a comer ahora. The future tense tends to be used for more distant or formal future events, promises, and conditional statements: Te llamaré mañana. Será muy difícil. Both are grammatically correct in most contexts.

Si + present → future (type 1 conditional) — For likely conditions (if … will): Si + present indicative → future: Si estudias, aprobarás. Si hace sol, iremos a la playa. The si-clause uses the present indicative (not the future), and the result clause uses the future tense. This is the type 1 (realistic) conditional in Spanish.
