📌
Usted commands — formal register — Usted commands are used in formal situations — with strangers, elders, clients, or in professional settings. Both affirmative and negative forms use the present subjunctive: Pase usted (come in), Tome asiento (take a seat), Firme aquí (sign here), No se preocupe (don't worry).
🔧
Subject pronoun usted is optional — Including usted in the command is optional but adds formality or clarity: Hable usted más despacio vs just Hable más despacio. Placing it after the verb is the most common order. Without it the command is still formal — the verb form signals the register.
💡
Common fixed usted command phrases — These usted command phrases are used constantly in everyday formal Spanish: Perdone (excuse me / sorry), Disculpe (excuse me), Espere un momento (wait a moment), Tenga (here you are / take this), Siga recto (go straight ahead).
