Contratar vs. contratar — context matters — La empresa me contrató (The company hired me). Me despidieron (I was fired — reflexive/passive construction). Trabajar en casa or trabajar de forma remota (to work from home/remotely). La pasantía is an internship — also called las prácticas in Spain. El desplazamiento (commute) — a key word for modern work life.

Work conversations — ¿Tienes contrato fijo? (Do you have a permanent contract?). Está buscando trabajo, está desempleada (She's job hunting, she's unemployed).
