Verbs with en before a noun or infinitive — Several important verbs are followed by en: pensar en (to think about), insistir en (to insist on), quedar en (to agree to), consistir en (to consist of), tardar en (to take time to), confiar en (to trust). These must be learned as collocations.
🔧
Verbs with con — Verbs taking con: soñar con (to dream of), casarse con (to marry), contar con (to count on), encontrarse con (to run into), enfadarse con (to get angry with). The English preposition often differs — "dream of" but soñar con.
💡
The same verb with different prepositions — Some verbs change meaning with different prepositions: pensar en (to think about) vs pensar de (to have an opinion of: ¿Qué piensas de él?). Acordarse de (to remember) vs quedar en (to agree to). Learning both prepositions for these verbs saves confusion later.
