📚 Quick grammar review
📌
Core location prepositionsEncima de (on top of), debajo de (under), delante de (in front of), detrás de (behind), al lado de (next to), enfrente de (opposite/facing). These compound prepositions all require de before a noun: al lado de la farmacia.
🔧
Cerca de / lejos de — relative distanceCerca de (near/close to) and lejos de (far from) describe relative distance: La estación está cerca de aquí. Vivo lejos de la ciudad. Without de, cerca/lejos are adverbs: No está lejos (It's not far).
💡
Estar vs hay for location — Use estar to say where a specific known thing is: El banco está detrás del correo. Use hay to say a thing exists in a place: Hay una farmacia cerca de aquí. Hay introduces; está/están locates. Mixing these up is one of the most common errors in intermediate Spanish.
