Sin, sobre, entre, hacia — Four useful prepositions often tested: sin (without — takes no article before nouns: sin coche), sobre (on/about/over), entre (between/among — always takes subject pronouns: entre tú y yo), hacia (toward — direction without necessarily arriving).
🔧
Por vs para — a constant challenge — The most frequently confused preposition pair: por = cause, exchange, duration, movement through, passive agent. Para = purpose, destination, deadline, recipient. When in doubt ask: is there a goal or intended receiver? (para) Or is there a cause, a route, or a price paid? (por).
💡
Prepositions after adjectives — Adjectives often require a specific preposition before an infinitive or noun: contento con, cansado de, listo para, interesado en, capaz de, responsable de. These adjective + preposition collocations are worth learning alongside the adjective itself.
